Ghost story films fascinated and scared me much more as a child than as an adult. Living close to Disneyland all my life, I would go wth my parents when I was 10 or so to ride the “Haunted Mansion” ride. It always freaked me out until I reached about the age of 13 or so. At that point, I had enough control over my fear to hide it, so I did. “The Changeling” might have scared me back in the day but as for now, I found it very predictable with uninteresting and non-scary turns throughout. George C. Scott is “the dude” in my book. However, he fails to impress in this waterlogged haunted house tale.
This is one that respected horror fan friends of mne like Rik Morgan and Charlie Ray La Pat have recommended. It’s also regarded by some critics as a classic. For me, it’s outdated. The best haunted house movie in my opinion is probably Poltergeist from the 80’s. Timeless! What did you think of “The Changeling?” I give it a 6/10.
